Oquirrh Hills Elementary Community School

In 2007, Oquirrh Hills Elementary School and the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley (BGCSV) partnered to create the Boys & Girls Club of Kearns, the first club to pioneer the west side of Salt Lake County.  The club started small and took a while to get going, but through hard work and devotion to our youth and families and the school that we serve our participation grew and our relationships became stronger.  Oquirrh Hills Elementary is within walking distance to Kearns Jr. High and the two Community Schools will bridge programs and services to advance progress in the neighborhood around the areas of education, income, and health.

In 2011, BGCSV and United Way of Salt Lake partnered to develop the Community School to help continue momentum. We have set the bar even higher with steeper goals, additional staff and resources, as we set out to reach more kids.  The Community School is working to increase reading and financial literacy and help fight against childhood obesity, among other issues, to help develop healthier families. The center serves over 150 students.
