'Stuff the Bus' with donated school supplies

SALT LAKE CITY — United Way of Salt Lake is encouraging the community to “Stuff the Bus” and donate school supplies to help 8,500 children get the tools they need to learn.

Recommended items to donate include: pencils (packages of 10), pens, spiral notebooks, markers, crayons (boxes of 16), pocket folders, glue sticks, highlighters and erasers

Supplies will be collected until Aug. 31, stuffed into backpacks and delivered to United Way Community Schools and Neighborhood Centers, which serve low-income children and families. Supplies will be stuffed by volunteers and delivered on Sept. 11, the 22nd annual United Way Day of Caring event.

Volunteers and donors can sign up at uw.org/stb; choose up to three items to donate, host a drive, and deliver supplies at the Stuff the Bus storefront at 70 S. Rio Grande St. at the Gateway Sept. 2-5 between 8 and 10 a.m. Additional dropoff locations can be found online, or donors can stop by the United Way office. 257 E. 200 South, Suite 300.


School year ends but reading effort continues
