United Way collecting school supplies for low-income students

Supplies will be collected through Aug. 31, stuffed into backpacks and delivered to more than 20 United Way Neighborhood Centers serving low-income children and families.
Hundreds of volunteers will stuff supplies into backpacks and deliver them on Sept. 13 during the organization's 20th annual Day of Caring event.
Those looking to participate can sign up at www.uw.org, choose up to three items to donate and hold a drive with family and co-workers. Supplies can be dropped off at the Stuff the Bus store front at the 70 S. Rio Grande at The Gateway Sept. 4-6 from 8-10 a.m. Donations also can be dropped off at any Walgreens location in Davis, Salt Lake, Summit, or Tooele counties.
Items that can be donated include: pencils (packages of 10), pens, notebook paper, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, three-ring binders (1.5-2 inches), markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, crayons (boxes of 16) and highlighters.
