Salt Lake City — Every year at the end of summer, most kids go back-to-school shopping for all the folders, pens, pencils, binders and glue sticks they could ever want. Unfortunately, some students don’t have this luxury. United Way of Salt is encouraging the community to “Stuff the Bus” and donate school supplies to help 5,000 children get the tools they need to learn.

Supplies will be collected throughout August, stuffed into backpacks and delivered to more than 20 United Way Neighborhood Centers serving low-income children and families in our community. Hundreds of volunteers will stuff supplies into backpacks and deliver them on September 13, 2012 during the organization’s 20th annual “Day of Caring” event.

WHAT:  Donate school supplies that will benefit 5,000 low-income students at more than 20 different locations.

WHEN:  August 1-31, 2012

HOW:  Sign up at uw.org; choose up to three items to donate; hold a drive with family and coworkers; drop off supplies at the Gateway (exact location TBD) by September 1.

VOLUNTEER: Join United Way of Salt Lake and hundreds of other volunteers stuff the school supplies into back packs and make deliveries on September 13.

Stuff the Bus school supply wish list:

Backpacks, pencils (packages of 10), pens, notebook paper, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, 3-ring binders (1.5-2 inches), markers, colored pencils, school glue/glue sticks, scissors, crayons (boxes of 16), highlighters, rulers, books

March 13, 2013 Author: Rachel Lewis | KSL SALT LAKE CITY — It's common for governments to issue bonds to raise money from the private sector for projects like building a bridge, library or zoo. However, instead of just a financial return, a social return is also expected in order for investors to get their money back.
