After-School Programs Helping Students
August 22, 2011Author: Lynn Rilling, United Way
This past year, Heather was a 5th grader at Parley’s Park Elementary. She entered the Holy Cross Ministries’ after-school program in 2nd grade and over the past three years has consistently participated in both the after-school and summer programs. Heather enjoys participating in the programs and her self-esteem has improved considerably. Heather has grown to demonstrate leadership abilities—she is confident and responsible with model behavior. When Heather first began the programs, she used to have difficulties concentrating during homework time and would not take assignments seriously. With the help of the CLC’s programs, this year she was determined to finish her projects and has volunteered on several occasions to give a helping hand to other students who are struggling.
