How You Can Join United Way of Salt Lake's Largest Single Day of Service
August 22, 2016
Heather MacDonald from the United Way of Salt Lake
shares more about the Day of Caring event coming up on August 31.
Day of Caring is United Way of Salt Lake's largest single day of service. This year there 4,000 volunteers signed up to work on over 130 projects across three counties. The day begins with breakfast, a live band, and media coverage at Library Square between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m.
From there volunteers will head to their projects and get to work.
Volunteers help beautify our community by pulling weeds, building garden beds, painting, and cleaning inside and outside. Other volunteers will work with students providing presentations on financial literacy or college and career readiness. Some of the activities are just fun including carnival type events for elementary students or reading fun books.
There are a limited number of spots available at our South Salt Lake Community Project. Volunteers will be helping to beautify the Jordan River Parkway creating a clean, safe, and beautiful space for residents and visitors.
If you are unable to get out and volunteer, you can follow the excitement on social media by searching #BecauseIcare or @uwsl. You can also always make monetary donations atuw.org/donate
