SALT LAKE CITY — Online registration is now available for the United Way of Salt Lake's 23rd annual Day of Caring. The annual day of service is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Last year, 5,700 individuals from 130 companies and groups volunteered in 135 projects at schools, nonprofit organizations, and other community locations in Davis, Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties.

Individual volunteers are welcome, as well as businesses, community and church groups, families and others. Nonprofit organizations and community agencies can submit project proposals now.

The deadline for volunteer registration and project proposals is May 31. Volunteer projects range from landscaping and painting to reading and tutoring kids, building garden boxes, and helping in classrooms and community centers. Volunteers are matched with projects that meet their time frame and needs.

To thank volunteers, United Way of Salt Lake is hosting the annual kickoff breakfast on Sept. 10 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Library Square in Salt Lake City. The event is open to all those who participate in volunteer projects throughout the day or would like to get involved.

Community agencies with project proposals should contact Heather MacDonald at 801-736-7715 or Businesses and groups hoping to volunteer should contact Alison Cundiff at 801-736-7726 or Sign up online at
