Members of the Society are invited to exclusive social and networking events throughout the year and receive local and national recognition. This national Society cultivates community leaders who work to build a stronger community and who inspire others to greater philanthropy. Founded by United Way of America, the Tocqueville Society honors the work of French philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville, who toured America in 1831 and wrote eloquently about the generosity and volunteerism that lives in the American heart. George B. Hoffman III, Executive Vice President of Zions Bank, is the Chair of the Tocqueville Society and heads a committee of volunteers who help raise awareness of the power of philanthropy.
Each United Way of Salt Lake Tocqueville Society member receives local recognition and is recognized nationally with a listing in United Way of America's Tocqueville Society Registry.
