What is Planned Giving?

A "planned gift" is a charitable contribution that is incorporated into your financial, tax, or estate plan. Through planned giving, you contribute to United Way of Salt Lake while at the same time receiving financial benefits such as tax savings and increased income.

Can Planned Giving benefit you?

The benefits of planned giving include:

  • Reduction or elimination of your capital gains tax on appreciated assets such as securities
  • Increased income for you or a person you designate as a beneficiary
  • Reduction of your income tax through the charitable income tax deduction
  • Decreased tax liability associated with the transfer of assets to your beneficiaries at your death
  • Gaining membership in United Way of Salt Lake's Legacy of Hope Society and joining a long list of faithful contributors who make a difference today and leave a legacy for tomorrow

Ways to Give

  • Make a bequest in your will
  • Donate a life insurance policy
  • Give through your retirement plan
  • Donate real estate or personal property
  • Contribute appreciated securities (stock, bonds, mutual fund shares etc.)
  • Give through a pooled income fund or donor advised fund, a charitable annuity or a charitable trust

By providing for the future through planned giving, you make it possible for United Way of Salt Lake to improve lives, strengthen our community, and create a brighter future for us all!

Memorial Gifts

Making a gift in memory of your loved one is another valuable way to benefit our community—now and for generations to come. Even at the most sorrowful times in our own lives, making a memorial gift can greatly impact the lives of others.

Simply by stating "In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to United Way of Salt Lake," you choose to make a lasting tribute to your family member or friend. Memorial gifts are a way for us to honor our loved ones and bring hope in a time of sorrow.
