Federal Labor-Heath and Human Services-Education appropriations bill
Note: The Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP)is funded through the Homeland Security appropriations bill. The House has passed its Homeland approps bill, funding EFSP at $153M. The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security has reported its bill, also funding EFSP at $153M. The full Senate Appropriations Committee approved its Labor-H bill on Thursday, June 21. The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor-HHS-Ed has approved its version, with full Committee action expected after the July 4th recess. So far, full information about these bills is not readily available on the House and Senate websites, but the Coalition on Human Needs has posted it on their website. Both bills provide modest increases in discretionary totals in FY 2008. The House bill offers nearly $151.55 billion for annually funded programs in FY 2008, $7 billion over current year spending, and $10.6 billion more than the President requested. The Senate's proposal provides slightly less funding at $149.2 billion. Note: The House increases funding for Head Start and the Child Care and Development fund by $75M each. The Senate provides no increase for Head Start, and a $200M increase for CCDF. The Senate bill eliminates the Even Start program. You can track all the appropriations bills on thomas. |
