Opening Doors to Educational Achievement PDF Print E-mail

Educational achievement is key to United Way of Salt Lake's goal of creating stronger, more prosperous families and communities. An education—whether it be a high-school diploma, a secondary degree, or job training—translates into higher-paying jobs and a more complete set of life skills.

But in 2005, only 34% of our fourth-grade students were proficient in fourth-grade reading. Utah adults aged between 24 and 35 are less likely than the national average to have a bachelor's degree; only 25 percent of adults in this age category have a four-year degree. 83% of Utah students graduate high school - meaning a full 17% do not graduate.

By opening doors to education, United Way of Salt Lake and our community partners are contributing to the success of the families in our communities as children succeed in school and adults gain new jobs skills or earn advanced degrees. Further, we are developing exciting strategic initiatives to bring education within reach of all Utahns.
