United Way of Salt Lake strives to provide a safety net for people in crisis. One of our core priorities will always be meeting basic needs: shelter, food for the hungry, transportation, emergency child care, and essential health care.

Nearly 10% of people in Davis, Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties live below the poverty level, and 12% of the children in these counties live in poverty. High housing costs have placed a burden on more than 30% of Utah's families. Health insurance is a major concern for many Utahns; 287,200 Utahns had no health insurance in 2007, while 37.9% of these individuals reported their employer does not offer coverage.

United Way of Salt Lake, along with our community partners, enables people to transform their lives by meeting their immediate, pressing needs so they can focus on long-term goals like education, a new job or permanent housing.
