United Way 2-1-1 partners with the Salvation Army to connect individuals to holiday assistance provided by the generous donations of the Angel Tree Program. United Way 2-1-1 schedules appointments for callers that are interested in receiving holiday assistance.
United Way 2-1-1 answered more than 10,000 calls, in the fall of 2011, from families interested in receiving holiday assistance. In order to qualify for this type of assistance, families need to be at 150 percent of poverty; roughly $22,000 for a household of four. The majority of those calling for help qualify for this service. This is a unique opportunity for United Way 2-1-1 to provide additional resources for struggling families; in particular, connecting families to financial counseling options to create thoughtful, long-term solutions around financial planning.
